Valentine’s Day: the day for appreciating that significant other, and those you hold close. It comes to this time every year when we ask ourselves ‘How can I make this Valentine’s different?’, and that’s where we come in!

Believe it or not, our Peak District home is packed full of romantic activities, whether it be stargazing in the hills, or picnicking in Mr Darcy’s own back garden - here are our top romantic things to do in the Peak District.

1. Head on a Romantic Peak District Walk

Your day of romance can start right on our doorstep, just you, that special someone… and preferably some walking boots. Not everything on Valentine’s Day needs to be glitz and glamour, sometimes it’s simply taking a stroll and appreciating the ordinary things in life - but we assure you, the views are anything but that. Here are some suggestions for a romantic Peak District walk.

Stanage Edge

We can’t mention romantic walks without mentioning the location for one of the romance films of our time - Pride and Prejudice. You probably already know that it featured Chatsworth House, but did you know it also featured Stanage Edge? The famous film showcased Kiera Knightley herself looking into the Peaks from this very location, so why not head down there and recreate the moment yourself, really get into the romantic fantasy.

Approx. 20 minutes from Losehill House.

Mam Tor

You might have seen Mam Tor on your social media lately, and we can tell you, the hype is real. It might just be one of the most beautiful views in the Peak District, and is only 10 minutes away from us!

This location in particular is prime for sunrise walks, and if you’re lucky, you could experience some cloud inversion that takes your experience to a whole new level of breathtaking.

Although Mam Tor is extremely popular, and for the right reasons, we realise that you may want something a little less crowded, for a more intimate outing with that someone special.

With that said, we also recommend nearby sunrise locations such as Curbar Edge, Kinder Scout, or maybe Winnatts Pass. Grab your significant other, wrap up warm, maybe take a hot flask of your favourite beverage, and let the views do the talking. And of course, if you’re going to venture into the Peaks in the early hours of the morning, please do so respectfully and safely.

Hathersage

If taking your time, strolling, and having a wander is more your style, then Hathersage might just be the thing this Valentine’s. Just 15 minutes away, this quaint village offers a lot of small gems to explore, and a whole lot of historic village charm.

2. Splash on some Blue John Jewellery

You might not know this, but just 10 minutes away you’ll discover a Castleton Cavern. In this cavern, is not only one of the most incredible caves in Europe, but also the home of the Blue John stone - a beautifully rare stone that is only mined in Treak Cliff Cavern and Blue John Cavern.

Blue John jewellery, ornaments and decorations can be purchased in nearby village shops. A one of a kind gift from a one of a kind place.

3. Step into a Period Romance at Chatsworth House

No romantic trip to the Peak District is complete without visiting the Chatsworth House. As one of the grandest stately homes in the UK, it played a starring role in Pride and Prejudice.

The stunning estate and its gardens served as the backdrop for Elizabeth Bennet’s first sight of Mr. Darcy’s grand estate -  can't get more romantic than that! Here you can explore the house’s opulent rooms and its impressive art collection, and wander hand-in-hand through the picturesque gardens, with fountains, sculptures, and peaceful corners fit for a serene picnic.

4. Take a Hot Air Balloon Ride

For an experience that will truly take your breath away, consider booking a hot air balloon ride over the Peak District. You’ll get a completely different perspective of the stunning landscape, with panoramic views of rolling hills, picturesque villages, and rugged peaks. This will, quite literally, take your Valentine’s activities to new heights.
